Come and support our team – Sarah Wedel, Aimee O’Driscoll, Sarah Buckley, Niamh Rana & Sheila Quinlan.
This Sunday 46 of the country’s top female gymnasts will descend on Douglas Community School to take part in the Ladies National Team Championships.
This is the first time Douglas Gym will host the event, which is the pinnacle of the Irish Gymnastics domestic calendar. Competing for the coveted national team crown will be clubs from all four corners of the island with teams travelling from as far away as Antrim and Mayo. Douglas Gym is the only Cork club in the line up.
The Douglas team boasts plenty of experience with Sarah Wedel and Aimee O’Driscoll having already experienced competition on a global scale at the World Championships last year. Douglas also welcome back Síle Quinlan who comes out of retirement for the competition. Niamh Rana and Sarah Buckley make up the rest of the Douglas team that are hoping for a podium finish at their home venue.
With the competition doubling as qualifiers for the Individual Apparatus Championships, to be held in May, it is guaranteed to be a close and entertaining affair.
The event begins at 10am this coming Sunday, March 7th, with the Douglas team taking to the floor at 2. Everyone is welcome to come and support our top gymnasts in action.
