Club AGM
The Annual General Meeting of Douglas Gymnastics Club will be held on Wednesday next 28/11/2007 at 8:00pm at Douglas Community School
This years AGM will be particularly important because we will be voting on proposals to enable the club to build its own 55 meter x 20 meter gymnasium on a site to be leased from Cork County Council. Proposals on the agenda will include:
- The allocation of a budget of up to 10,000 euros for professional services such as business planning, architecture, and engineering to develop a new gymnasium.
- The appointment of a new auditor/accountant
- The Douglas Gymnastics Building Sub-Committee will be presenting details regarding the type of building to be constructed and the anticipated costs involved. It will be proposed that a particular type of building be constructed.
Above all, we will need architectural, engineering, business and legal advice for this project to succeed. If there are any parents who have expertise in these areas, we hope that you will attend the AGM and offer your services. Whatever help or advice you are able to provide will be greatly appreciated and will ultimately enable the club to offer a far higher standard of gymnastics training to the gymnasts in the club.
Regional Level 1 Competition
Last weekend, Douglas played host to the Southern Region Girls Level 1 Competition. About 70 gymnasts from around Cork were competing, with 24 from Douglas taking part. Congratulations to all the girls.
Eight of our gymnasts were successful in qualifying to represent the region at the National Finals, which take place in Dublin next weekend! Best of luck girls!
Trojan Cup
This weekend, we’ve 15 gymnasts taking part in the Trojan Cup Competition in Dublin. The girls have been working hard on their routines, so hopefully the work pays off! Best of luck girls.
Special Olympics
Congratulations to Margaret Walsh (Owenabue Gym Club, Crosshaven), and William Loughnane (St. Clares, Ennis) who represented Ireland at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer games in Shanghai, China in October. William and Margaret were the only two gymnasts from Munster competing in the games. Both William and Margaret are regular visitors to Douglas Gym Club. It was a fantastic event for both of them with William winning 6 Golds, and 1 bronze, and Margaret Winning 2 Godls and 1 Bronze.
Training in Lisburn
Over the mid term break, we brough 8 of our elite gymansts to Salto Gymnastics Club in Lisburn for a training camp. (the only place in Ireland with a fully equiped gymnastics facility!)
Douglas Gym Club at the North-Euros
Irish Gymnastics held the 2007 North European Championships from the 4th – 7th October in Dublin City University.
Douglas had 3 gymnasts representing Ireland at the competition – Sarah Wedel, Aimee O’Driscoll and Chris O’Connor. The Irish Team did very well. Congrats all.
Many of our coaches were involved also – either as coaches, judges, event organisation staff. The event was featured on RTE a few weeks ago also, so maybe some of you got a chance to see it.
Christmas Party
This years Christmas Party will take place on Saturday 15th December in the gym from 10:00 – 12:00. Fun, games, and a special guest! We’ll be having a coffee morning for parents too, so mark it in your diary!
