On Saturday team Ireland (including Douglas Gymnast Meg Ryan & coach Emma Hamilll) arrived in Basel ahead of this week’s European championships, They have been training over the weekend ahead of competition this week – below is some information about what’s on when etc that might be of interest to you all.

As many gymnasts have been effected by Covid 19 in terms of training and also not having as many opportunities to compete internationally over the past year – this European championships is set to be a very exciting one with many gymnasts returning to international competition and using these championships as a warm up ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games.
The first round of competition will be Women’s qualification on Wednesday, now the competition will run from 9am til 7.30pm (Irish time zone) in 4 different sub-divisions, with the lads being at school they’ll miss most of the day but fortunately the Irish girls are in the last subdivision from 5.30pm-7.30pm so there’ll be a chance to see Emma and Meg there, however this is swiss coverage so they’ll be showing as much of everyone as possible. The Irish are competing their qualification round with some of the top nations/gymnasts – so we will keep our fingers crossed we might see a few routines close up if not we may see them in the background etc.
On Thursday it’ll be the Men’s qualification where we’ll see Rhys and Adam, again we got quite lucky with them being in the last sub-division as well from 4pm-6.40pm, in the later rounds most nations will put their top gymnasts in so this should be an exciting round to watch too.
Once all gymnasts have finished qualification, Friday will be the first day of Finals, with Womens and then Men’s All Around Finals,
Womens AA Final – 12.30pm – 2.30pm
Mens AA Final – 4.00pm – 6.45pm
Saturday (12.30pm – 3.10pm) and Sunday (12.00pm – 2.40pm)will be for the individual event finals, hopefully qualification going well we will see Rhys in the pommel final on the Saturday.
Saturday‘s finals will start at 12.30pm but Pommel final will be 2nd up starting at 1.10pm, all European finals are very high Calibur and as far as I’m aware there isn’t a single nation that hasn’t sent gymnasts so it’ll be very competitive.
The finals are due to be televised by RTE 2 on Friday 12.15pm / Saturday 12.15pm /Sunday 11.45am – we will be looking forward to seeing Andy commentating on RTE 2 over the weekend !
